Portland Museum of Art

The Museum’s collection contains more than 17,000 fine and decorative works of art dating from the 18th century to the present. The collection includes paintings, sculpture, prints, photography, glass and ceramics, artists’ books, furniture, and much more. Works by artists such as Frederic Edwin Church, Marsden Hartley, Winslow Homer, Rockwell Kent, Louise Nevelson, John Singer Sargent, Andrew Wyeth, and Marguerite Zorach showcase the unique artistic heritage of the United States and Maine. The major European movements, from Impressionism through Surrealism, are represented by Mary Cassatt, Edgar Degas, René Magritte, Claude Monet, Edvard Munch, Pablo Picasso, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir, among others.

The Museum is located at Seven Congress Square in downtown Portland, at the intersection of High, Congress, and Free streets. (High and Free streets are one-way streets.)

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Friday: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Memorial Day–Columbus Day: Open Mondays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Members are free. Membership is a great value! Portland Museum of Art Members receive free year-round admission, discounts in the Museum Store, and the Members’ Magazine.

Directions:
Take I-295 to exit 6A, Forest Avenue south. At the first light, bear right onto Rt. 77, State Street. Drive through the park and proceed up State Street to the top of the hill. Turn left at the light onto Congress Street. The Museum is located on the right after the next light. View Map

Parking Public parking lots are located on High, Free, and Spring streets. The Free Street parking lot located next to the Museum is now owned and operated as a private lot for Maine Health employees. As an alternative, we encourage you to park in the Spring Street/Civic Center garage ($1.25 per hour) or at the By the Bay Parking lot at 40 Spring Street (75 cents per hour when you show your PMA sticker). Metered street parking is free after 6 p.m. and all day Sunday.
